100 Days to My Anniversary

Review

Marriage is not always a bed of roses, my husband is fond of saying. Yet the love doesn’t have to fade, author Shari Popejoy teaches in 100 Days to My Anniversary. In these one hundred brief devotionals, Shari offers concrete suggestions to rekindle the fire of romance in your marriage.

In 100 Days to My Anniversary, Shari offers advice and biblical counsel on how to improve one’s attitude, actions, and marital outlook. Each day has a simple tip or assignment. Some are as simple as smiling. Others are harder, like the exercise to not ask my husband for anything (eye-opening! I never realized how many times I ask my husband every day to help me). Once a week is a longer “Lord’s Day Devotional” on love.

Shari Popejoy has real-life experience in marital issues. She knows what it is like to live in a less-than perfect marriage, and she has seen God work through her and in her marriage. She shares frankly and honestly how a meek, loving wife can consistently maintain her own relationship with God while allowing God to work in her husband.

Shari also talks frankly about areas all wives need to work on–our attitudes, our priorities, our actions. With small, daily changes in meditations and habits, she shows how the Lord can make radical changes first in our own hearts, then in our marriages.

We as wives (ok, maybe just me!) can easily pick at our husbands, wishing they would change this our that. Shari’s book 100 Days to My Anniversary gently guides the reader deeper into the relationship with God and meanwhile deeper in love with the man just as he is. That focus shift changes everything.

No topic is left unaddressed. Shari tackles such touchy subjects as marital intimacy with tact and humor; the reader gets the point, without blushing. While the subject matter is adult, Shari is neither prudish nor graphic.

The book 100 Days to My Anniversary is not primarily a devotional, but it is a great daily read for a marital pick-up. Not only do I highly recommend it, but I will be reading it yearly myself to give my own marriage a tune-up.
