Review
AlongWooded Paths is the second book in Tricia Goyer’s Amish series about Marianna Sommer. In the first book, Beside Still Waters, we find Marianna torn between two worlds. In this book, the story continues with Marianna not only torn between the Amish and the English way of life, but also between two men and her love for them. Everything within her, including her family and traditions, tells her that she should marry Aaron, the Amish man from Indiana who she has planned on marrying since childhood. That is until Ben came into her life. He is an Englisher who has shown her what it looks like to walk close to God.
I found Tricia’s character, Marianna, fascinating. Readers who have had to make difficult decisions in life will find themselves relating to her. Marianna stands at a crossroad knowing that the decision she must make will change everything. We sympathize with her struggling heart. And we are encouraged as she seeks God’s perfect will for her life as she walks along wooded paths.
I enjoyed the book, but toward the end of it I did find the story to take on a “soap opera” mood. I closed the book with questions begging to be answered. Perhaps, the third book, Beyond Hopes Valley, will elucidate my thoughts. I guess I’ll have to read it to find out.
