Living Out the Word: Faith

Review

Living Out the Word: Faith – A Verse-by-Verse Study for Women Through James is the second book in the Living Out the Word series by Kimberly Williams, a pastor’s wife and homeschool mom. Kimberly uses our family’s favorite Bible version, the King James Version, for this in-depth look at the New Testament book of James. Living Out the Word: Faith focuses in general on different aspects of faith found in the book of James, and also looks at other concepts found in the book of James like trials (that test our faith), wisdom, the tongue, treatment of those around us, and submission to Christ.

Living Out the Word: Faith takes a look at the verses in James in one- to three-verse sections, just right for daily study for ten weeks. It brings other related passages from the entire Bible into the study so it’s not just a discussion of the concepts in a verse, but a bigger picture of what God says in His Word. In this study of faith according James, the role of works as the fruit of faith is talked about and defined in a helpful manner. Aspects of how our faith can become more real are addressed as well.

Living Out the Word: Faith, as devotional and a Bible study, is definitely a journey for me to solidify and challenge the quality of my faith. While this is a study of James, it is not limited to James. When concepts like wisdom or anger are discussed, there are many verses throughout the Bible added to the study. For example verses in Proverbs or the parables of Jesus that illustrate something in the discussion are added to help us have a better spiritual understanding as we meditate on them.

Living Out the Word: Faith is broken into simple, manageable sections for real daily quiet time for real women. It is a study that would be helpful for anyone, especially busy moms, to take a little time to think and meditate on “bite-size” pieces of Scripture in their quiet time and to grow spiritually. I like the way the Living Out the Word series has the reader write out related verses and answer questions to get more involved and active in the study.  This is a serious study for those that hunger to know more about Scripture, about God, our faith in Him, and many deeper aspects of personally living out our life through God’s Spirit.

About the Reviewer

Anna Horan
Anna loves to serve her Savior and Creator as a wife to her wonderful, God-given husband of fourteen years and a natural mama to a "quiverful" of precious blessings here on earth, presently ages one to thirteen. She lives out in the country with them, some chickens, and a cat. She has been educating her children since the oldest daughter was four. She feels that opening up many new horizons by teaching her children to read is one of the most fulfilling things she does. Seeing her children become voracious readers is such a joy to her. She spends her extra time learning about things like real food and teaching her girls to cook from scratch with whole foods in a (biblically clean) “Nourishing Traditions” way.

James is a great book. (isn’t all the bible?) sounds interesting.
