It only takes a click or two through Southern Adventist University’s website to see that homeschool graduates are valued at Southern.
With a homeschool-friendly admissions page, incoming Southern students know from the earliest application steps that someone is available and willing to help all along the way. But this welcome is not limited to admissions help. Among our many scholarships offered, students graduating from a homeschool program (two or more years of attendance) may qualify for an $8,000 freshman bridge scholarship ($2,000 awarded per year over four years) to encourage giving Seventh-day Adventist education a try. Incoming freshmen will be eligible to renew this scholarship for up to four years by maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA and full-time student status.
Southern’s dream is that all students will grow closer to their Creator as they increase their skills and knowledge with an award-winning university education. This is accomplished through faculty mentoring, student-led ministry and service opportunities, small-group studies with Christian classmates, internships, and an honors program — not to mention more than 90 majors to choose from! Additionally, approximately 50 students each year take classes in another country while studying abroad, and others have an opportunity to spend a year as full-time missionaries or participate in short-term mission trips.
The impact Southern has made has led to a “Top Tier” ranking by US News & World Report for 17 consecutive years; and the Princeton Review recognized Southern in its “Best in the Southeast” category, a designation earned by only 25 percent of the institutions studied.
Southern boasts over sixty student clubs and organizations. Additionally, the 1,300-acre campus boasts 37 miles of walking and biking trails, and nearby Chattanooga was twice voted as “Best Town Ever” by Outdoor Magazine. Combined, these opportunities make Southern an ideal location for rich experiences both on and off campus.
